POSTER DESIGN
Experience
Learning typography has been eye-opening for me, revealing its depth. I gained hands-on experience with kerning, leading and letterspacing, improving text design and readability. Task 2 involved combining type expression and text formatting for a cohesive design. Creating my own typeface was the most enjoyable, allowing creative expression and individuality. This process deepened my understanding of typography and graphic design, inspiring future typeface and poster projects. The satisfaction of materializing my ideas into a functional and aesthetic typeface is unparalleled.
Observations
Typography requires attention to detail, with minor adjustments significantly affecting visual appeal and readability. The evolution of letterforms, influenced by historical writing tools, offers insights into modern typefaces. Readability hinges on font size, leading and spacing, balancing text density and white spaces. Effective design relies on interplay between type elements, with headlines drawing attention and clear body text maintaining engagement. Designing a typeface involves understanding shapes, proportions and aesthetics, highlighting the artistry involved.
Findings
This module highlighted the vast potential in typography and graphic design. It showed how crucial typography is for balancing readability and visual appeal to effectively communicate messages. This experience has inspired me to explore and create new typefaces, and design compelling graphic posters.
