LECTURES

INSTRUCTIONS

This is the Module Information Booklet for this module:

EXERCISE

In the exercises given, we were required to use this to practice and use the same output for our later projects. There are some shared with environment design as well. We are required to show things such as:

  1. Perspective studies
  2. Compositions
  3. Value Studies
  4. Sky Replacements
  5. Virtual Plain Air
  6. 2.5D mattes
  7. Invisible Set Extensions

PROJECT 1 -

INVISIBLE SET EXTENSION (PRE-PRODUCTION)

We are required to synthesize the knowledge gained in task 1 to apply in task 2. We are required to conceptualize and build assets as a prep for invisible set extension over raw footage or recreate it from scratch from concept to finished art work.

As the project carried forward, a lot of the ideas evolved and changed.

This is my mood board for project 1:

I also initially rendered a trial video for the concept, mood and atmosphere.

Here is the compiled proposal submitted for project 1

PROJECT 2

In this task we were required to use the knowledge gained in task 1 and 2 for application in task 3. We are required to compile a technical document consisting of the moodboard, style guide, sketches, and technical process. Final output includes a 15-30 second video uploaded to youtube.

This was the initial idea for the storyboard.

The idea was to have a drone fly through the city and land on the focal point.

I then changed my focal point from being the shop lot I made in environment design to a hologram of Ultraman on top of the building instead.

Here is the model found from sketchfab.

I then placed everything and animated it according to the storyboard in mind.

Here is the overall scene layout:

These are the individual stills from the different compositions:

These are some buildings made to be scattered around the city:

Random signage and screens were also scattered around the city to illuminate the scene:

FINAL PROJECT
THEMATIC MATTE PAINTING

We are required to demonstrate technical capabilities to analyze and composite and communicate set uniqueness by blending 3D and 2D elements. We are required to come up with 3 different locations based on the theme and genre selected. We must also showcase the breakdown of how this project was undertaken.

We are then required to submit a technical document in pdf form which includes the mood board, style guide, storyline and technical process. Final output also includes a 30 second video.

Here are the individual camera positions in the scene:

Here are also some still images of the respective shots:

During the final video, I went through the process of sound designing and color correcting the videos. Most sound design clips used were found from Envato Elemenets.

Here is the PDF compilation of the entire breakdown and process I went through throughout this project:

Here is the youtube video submission of the animation:

REFLECTIONS

This subject was really hard for me as ive not really done a lot of large scale animations. Having to optimize as I work was really interesting. Adding story elements also was a really fun aspect of this project. Im grateful for all the feedback provided from Mr Kannan and his constant believe in my skillset.
