EXERCISE

In the exercises give, we were encouraged to use this to practice and use the same output for our Project 1. We were required to output the same things such as:

1. Perspective drawings
2. Composition studies
3. Value studies
4. Ambience studies
5. Color Management
6. Set Design
7. Photo Bashing

Here is the pdf compilation of the exercises:

PROJECT 1

In this project we need to choose and develop a location based on a theme or story we have proposed from a game/movie/cartoon.

We are required to show the following:

1. Mood board
2. Thumbnail sketches
3. Composition studies
4. Value studies
5. Ambience studies

Mood board

Here is the mood board for my proposed subject:

Idea was approved but the chunk it down. Here is the updated mood board:

Thumbnail

Here is the initial thumbnail sketches:

Feedback: Focus on a specific part of the building that gets the most interactions.

I then proceeded with a rough blockout instead because id spend more time tracing and drawing in 2D than doing a rough blockout in 3D. Just my own limitations.

Outputs

Here is the final product for Project 1. It will be refined later on during the final project.

PROJECT 2

In this project we were required to continue and develop the interior design that best reflects Project 1. We are to focus on 1 interior set and showcase the relevance of its existence of its inhabitants. Below is the list of tasks to be completed.

1. Mood board
2. Thumbnail sketches
3. Composition studies
4. Value studies
5. Ambience studies

Mood board

Here is the mood board for the interior design of my shop lot proposed in project 1.

Thumbnail and composition sketches

Instead of drawing, I again resorted to blocking out the shapes in 3D and doing a quick paint over for some of them

Ambience studies

I wanted the mood to be dark and gloomy with high contrasting lighting and areas of focus in the scene.

I played with different contrasting colors but resorted to the classic cyberpunk color scheme of pink and blue for the interior of the shop lot.

Outputs

These are the different renders made in the shoplot to focus on different parts of the interior:

REFLECTIONS

This to me wasnt a very new topic as ive been doing environment design as passion projects in the past. However ive learnt to implement and construct the story and build the world around the environments I now create. It is interesting to add subtle details that tell stories or leave the viewer curious.
