Task 2: Visual Analaysis

 1.   RECAP OF TASK 2

 In this task, we are required to assess, investigate, document and analyze the artwork we have chosen in Task 1. We will study the design principles found in that art work, as well as the size, placement, purpose, effectiveness of the design in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) that I have chosen.

Phase 1: Observation

The art piece (figure 1.) i've chosen is in portrait format. In the center, facing the viewer, is a scientist wearing a strikingly vivid red suit, holding a device. The scientist is standing in the middle of a shallow river, surrounded by a dense, lush, jungle with a clearing above him, allowing light to penetrate the canopy and illuminate the scientist. As for the visual elements, the main colors observed are shades of green and yellow of different saturation and brightness, and bright, saturated, red. The mood of the overall scene is dark and gloomy. This art piece conveys a sense of importance.

The intentional use of complementary colors, red and green, with different saturation levels, and the juxtaposition of the scientist, positioned in the middle, create a strong sense contrast.

The scientist, positioned in the center of the composition, serves as the focal point, creating a sense of symmetry. The dense greenery around him also contributes to the overall equilibrium. The puddle of water, though asymmetrical, introduces a reflective element that balances the composition dynamically.

Through the intentional distribution of various visual elements, this art piece achieves a harmonious balance, ensuring that the different components of this picture blend together to form a visually pleasing composition.

The deliberate placements of the trees and shrubs in the background, midground and foreground, features organic lines that skillfully frame the central subject positioned at the well-lit center. The scientist is highlighted with a pronounced sense of significance and importance.

The surrounding natural elements, such as swaying branches, leaves and flowing water in the river, introduces organic lines and curves that imply movement and directs the eyes of the viewer toward the center of the artwork, creating a sense of flow.

Phase 3: Interpretation

As a viewer of this artwork, it gives a sense of surrealism. The emphasis of the scientist creates a compelling narrative, placing the scientist, wearing a bright red suit, in the middle of a dense jungle, adds an intriguing element to the scene. The vibrant red suit could also symbolize a sense of passion and significance, but also urgency and importance of the scientific endeavor. The way the scene is lit, with the light coming directly from above, illuminating the subject, also implies a sense of importance towards the work the scientist is conducting there. This makes us, as the viewer, feel connected to the scientist and creates a story around what could be happening in the scene.

In a last-ditch effort by the UNSDG in the year 3024, a scientist, wearing a bright red suit, embarked on an urgent mission to unearth the secrets of Earth's dwindling ecosystems. As he immersed himself in the pursuit of knowledge and conservation, he stumbled upon a reading that hinted towards the existence of the last known surviving and thriving ecosystem in the world. Overwhelmed by the lush scenery surrounding him, the scientist, driven by a sense of urgency, meticulously took readings on his device. With all the data received, he hoped to unravel the secrets of this forest he just discovered. However a startling realization dawns upon him; the forest he was standing in was a meticulously created artificial environment. Was it all a facade?

Reflection:

As a concept artist myself, the way the artist (figure 1.) has composed his art piece; the way he framed the subject, the dramatic, cinematic, lighting, bold complementary color choices and the textures used, portrays a very compelling and aesthetic art piece that also holds a very strong message that is easily legible to the viewer. We as mankind need to do better or we wont have a world to live in.

As the world teeters on the brink of irreversible climate change, it is imperative that we take immediate and decisive action to secure a sustainable future for generations to come. The urgency of this matter demands collective efforts from individuals, communities, industries and corporate giants alike to mitigate the impacts of global warming and preserve the delicate balance of our planets ecosystems.

By prioritizing in our practices and innovations, we can pave the way for a more resilient and thriving world, where environmental supervision and responsible resource management are central to our way of life. Together, lets commit to building a brighter and more sustainable future, where the legacy we leave behind is one of harmony and balance with nature! :3
